To
support the needs of our students, a Guidance Officer specialising in
educational psychology visits Buderim Mountain State School three days a
week. Their role is to work with staff, families and students in the area of social and emotional health and wellbeing.
Generally,
any issue that might impact adversely on a student’s wellbeing can be referred to the Guidance Officer. Activities undertaken by the
Guidance Officer include standardised intellectual ability and achievement
assessments, functional behaviour assessments, contributing to intervention
plans, developmental counselling for a range of individual circumstances including grief and
relationships, social skilling and support for positive ‘parenting’ (the family
has a critical role in the welfare of students at the school). Referrals are
generally made through the School Administration or the class teacher to the
school’s Support Team.
