Our
music program plays an important role in our school, and also offers
opportunity to interact and connect with the local Buderim community. With this in mind we provide every class with
a weekly 30 minute music lesson taught by a specialised teacher.
Instrumental
lessons are provided during school time with a small annual fee. Students from
Years 3-6 learn string instruments, and Years 4-6 participate in percussion,
woodwind and brass lessons. Numbers are limited and an audition is required.
To
encourage participation and expand on children’s lessons, a beginner level
Orchestra and Concert Band exists, providing free loan instruments for the
first year. Beyond this, students can audition to move into the regular School
Concert Band and Orchestra, and hire instruments at a low cost.
School
choirs are participated in on a voluntary basis for students in Years 1-6.
Choir members practice weekly during lunch breaks and along with our concert
band and strings group, are regularly invited to perform at eisteddfods, as
well as local community events and parades.
Musical Extension Activities
With
the individual interests and needs of students in mind, we offer a variety of
musical extension activities for school students, including a Marimba group, Ukelele group, Junior and
Senior level Performing Troupes as well as a Dance Team for selected competitions.
The
Music Bus also provides modern and rock-style courses in keyboard, drums,
guitar, ukulele and rock band at a low cost outside of school hours. More
information on The Music Bus can be found on our extra-curricular activities.
