At
Buderim Mountain State School we offer a variety of Extension Programs. Our intention is always to provide high
achieving students with the opportunity to investigate and learn at a capacity
best suited to their individual needs while connecting them with like-minded
students.
Details
of our extension programs are provided below. For more information, please
contact Sandi Wallace through the administration office on (07) 5477 2777.
Aspire
The
Aspire excellence program aims to extend the capabilities of students
recognised as learning above and beyond their current year curriculum.
Throughout
the school year, there are three Aspire programs in the areas of Mathematics,
English and Science, for students in Years 1-6. The program is supplementary to
their lessons and extends on their current curriculum, occurring during school
hours outside of their regular classroom lessons.
In addition, children
who participate in the Aspire program participate in inter-school competitions
such as the Readers Cup, the Voices on the Coast Telling Stories Writing Competition,
the Optiminds Creative
Sustainability Challenge, Sunshine Coast Mathematics Tournament
and the roborave.
Aspire Excellence
For
our highest achieving students, we provide an annual accelerated learning
opportunity in the form of an intensive two-day coding and computer programming
course. The course aims to extend elite students further and prepare them for
their higher education and the modern workforce.
Solid Pathways
Solid
Pathways is an academic extension program for high achieving Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander students in Years 4-6. Selected students participate in
weekly online lessons aligned to the national curriculum with a focus on
critical and creative thinking, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander histories and culture.
