Intent on empowering students to become healthy and active citizens, we provide health, physical education and sports programs to all students as part of the Australian Curriculum.
The Health and Physical Education (HPE) program aims to build an understanding of nutrition, personal growth and development, social and community health, and also equip students with critical inquiry skills.
We believe physical education and organised sport play a significant role in children's growth and development, building on not just their motor skills and physical health, but helping to develop leadership capabilities and teamwork skills.
School swimming: Swim to Survive
Swimming is an integral part of the Australian and local Sunshine Coast culture, and the ability to comprehensively swim provides children with confidence and also saves lives. With this priority in mind, Buderim Mountain State School is proud to offer a heated 25-metre swimming pool on campus for school lessons and carnivals. Swimming lessons are provided to all students from Prep to Year 6 unless written advice from a parent or guardian is provided for students with a medical or physical issue.
Older students also learn swim rescue skills, based on the Australian curriculum. A small fee is required for participation to cover the expenses associated with additional supervising staff. High achieving swimmers will participate in district swimming carnivals upon nomination.
Our sports program
In order to enrich students' everyday lives by promoting physical activity and an academic balance, we offer inter-school team sports.
Inter-school sport competitions for Years 5 and 6 students occur in third term on a Friday. They include Rugby, Auskick, Oztag, Basketball, Netball and Soccer. Students are proud to represent their school to the best of their abilities and always wear a clean and tidy school uniform to show that pride.
