At
Buderim Mountain State School we cater for students who have a diverse range of
educational needs. Our school-based and visiting specialist staff work together
to meet with students and review their individual needs regularly. Tailored
programmes can then be developed to address the social and emotional needs of
students and assist them in achieving their goals.
Our
literacy and numeracy support teachers and our class teachers work to deliver
support programmes in the student’s regular class environment wherever
possible. On occasions, some support programmes are offered in alternative
settings. Parents will be advised of such an occurrence, and we work closely
with families throughout the entire process.
An
example of one of our latest support services is the Story Dogs programme. Aimed at improving
children’s literacy and confidence, a local volunteer brings their trained
Story Dog to school, and students participate in a one-on-one reading session.
The child gets to practise their reading skills in a friendly, relaxed and
non-judgemental environment. The benefits for children can be life-changing.
