With our school motto being 'Strive to Achieve', we believe that students need opportunities to flourish and reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally. Providing opportunities for students to learn leadership skills and lead key initiatives across the school, which are student driven, are critical skillsets to learn and develop in their senior years of primary schooling. Our student leadership program provides students with opportunities to have input into decisions, voice concerns and make suggestions to improve our school, as well as becoming more aware and part of the wider community.
Leadership is integral to life-long learning. All students should have the opportunity to demonstrate and develop leadership skillsets. Student leadership roles at Buderim Mountain State School include School Captains and Student Leaders. Students who aim to gain a student leadership role need to aspire to demonstrate an understanding and model our STRIVE core values in every aspect of school life.
The Year 6 Student Leadership Team is comprised of sixteen female and sixteen male year 6 students elected by their peers. Student Leader members regularly meet with the senior Deputy Principal, and work on projects identified by students as important. The leaders also nominates charities to support and school improvements to make, which they fund through various school fundraisers they coordinate throughout the school year.
Buderim Mountain State School has four sporting houses, each named after an aboriginal word for a sporting activity; Iterra, Cheropin, Walla and Yuamala. Student Leaders who are elected also lead their respective sports house at all sporting events held at the school each year.
School Captains and Vice Captains are also nominated through a peer voting process at the end of year 5, after giving speeches and going through a campaign process. One female and one male student is chosen as School Captain and Vice Captain.
